Louis Garneau Speed Kit Transformer vs. Course II Polarized sun shades
Tweet

The Lowdown
After about 10 years, I decided it was finally time to replace our tired, broken, sports-sunglasses.  I use them exclusively for jogging and cycling, along with my wish record was quite standard. First and foremost, I wanted a nicely ventilated frame to minimize clouding and keep me cool. Second, I needed a sizable enough lens to give me good insurance. Lastly, I didn’t wish to spend a fortune. With those attributes in mind,  I quickly zeroed in on two designs from Garneau – Speed System and Course Two.  I ordered the two pairs from Elevation for comparison and here are my observations about how the two models stack up.

Style
A very very subjective topic, although I believe the design of the Speed glasses is quite generic for the running/cycling market. That isn’t a bad thing – the style can be tried and true. The framework comes in glossy whitened contrasts nicely with all the lenses. The Course II, on the other hand, have a much more distinctive and unique design with the squared lenses and vented temples. The fames come in dark and “clear smoke”, with can be a translucent grey.  My partner and i opted for the clear smoke and I really like the monotone, modest look it creates together with the grey lens.

Frame Size & Fit
Both frames are lighting, comfortable and carry firmly in place.  Each model is equipped with an adjustable polymer nose piece, although I prefer usually the one used on the Speed spectacles which is noticeably softer.   Garneau qualifies these glasses as having a medium-large fit, although I’d say they are on the medium side. That said, the lens on the Course 2 glasses are significantly less tapered then those on the Speed glasses, giving them more of a larger, rectangular search and providing more coverage. Since I appeared vain to find the real dimensions of these products, I made a decision to measure them myself personally for those of you who could be interested in buying these kinds of glasses. Below are the approximate dimensions:

Lenses & Accessories
To begin with, both frames allow you to change the lenses. By “lenses” I actually mean “lens” simply because each model is designed with one steady lens that works the length of the body. The Speed glasses have three sets: Greyish, Amber, and crystal clear.  The Course II incorporates only one – Grey Polarized.  Comparing Grey in order to Grey, the polarized possess a bit stone island shirts uk darker color and, as you’d assume they do offer greater contrast and glare reduction.  The contacts in the Course Ii are also vented for more breathability.  That said, both pieces do a great job hindering the sun and are magnificent. It should also be noted that polarized lenses can easily interfere with your ability to look at “some” LCD screens. With my case, there was no issue with my cell phone, but I was only able to read the screen on my Garmin 305 Gps navigation watch at particular angles.  This wasn’t a new show stopper for me personally, but it’s something that you may want to investigate before opting for a new polarized lens.
In terms of accessories, the Speed glasses will comw with with a strap as well as an RX adaptor, whle both designs come in a polyurethane foam insulated zippered hard situation and include a microfiber cleaning cloth.

Performance
I recently did a 5K run in 30+ humidity, and the Course II glassed performed perfectly remaining clear as well as free of fog and moisture.  I did not discipline test the Speed glasses (spoiler alert, I chose the program II), but based on the wide open design, I’d count on similar performance.
Value
I believe both models offer good value at their particular price points.  I would state that if you don’t need the advantages of a polarized lens (namely superior glare reduction), the Speed model is most likely a better value in the lower price point and the inclusion of the additional lenses and other components.  That being said, polarized lenses are generally universally more expensive and several individuals may look at this feature a prerequisite, in particular those who will use their particular glasses on or perhaps close proximity to the water where glare is usually a major issue. Relative to their particular polarized competitors, the Course 2 offers great benefit.
And the winner is….
I guess calling it any draw is a cop-out, nevertheless honestly I think these kinds of models are both champions.  They are each well made, with light accommodating frames and magnificent lenses.  The Speed gives you three lenses for less money, but the Course The second offers vented polarized contact lenses that offer superior contrast and glare lowering. In my case, the Course Two came out the winner, primarily because the larger contact lenses offered me better attention coverage.  I also usually run and experience on trails running alongside the river, and so i do appreciate the polarization.  Should you be in the market for glasses and also considering these types, you’ll have to pick your individual winner based on how are put your face and whether you’ll benefit from a polarized contact lens. At the end of the day receiving a quality product with a fair price is always a new win-win situation in my textbooks.
